As a mother, educator and conscientious person I want to express my concern about the pornographic videos that are on exhibit at the video stores, Movieland and Video Center.
How is it possible to go into a video store with your children to look for a cartoon, happy and fascinating, as any child wants? But, while going through the shop to find the favorite video, the child finds something totally different from his world of colors and animation. He finds obscene pictures on the videocassette boxes that are on display on the lowest shelves in the store.
I am asking in the voice of the children of Bonaire that the owners of these video stores watch their cases and prepare another more private area for these adult videos so that they will not be seen by all the little "angels" who enter these places with the innocence of children and leave with total confusion after seeing these pornographic pictures.
A child with a healthy mind today will be a good adult tomorrow.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. After some complaints of customers, we already have 'blacked out' most parts of the video covers that were really too 'dirty' for some of our customers (and kids). We also attached a big poster on the window in order to make it less easy to look inside the store from the street. Because of the limited store space we cannot create a separate 'department' for X-rated movies. I will take a second look at some pictures and see if there's a need to censor some covers more heavily. Also I will look into the possibility of attaching black plastic on the window near the X-rated movies.
If people don't want their children to look at the already censored pictures, they better guide them in our store. But, after having taken the mentioned measures, I think that what's left to look at, is not really more 'shocking' for kids to look at than what TV or magazines is bringing them. We DO take every complaint and suggestion serious and try to do our best to find a way that makes everybody happy. These X-rated movies happen to be very popular by a lot of our customers. R.
