Bobby

Meet Bobby, a special dog who has a quality you usually only see on TV commercials. His lips move in a way he seems to be speaking, although no words come out. It's hard to tell if the words would be in Papiamentu, English or Dutch, however. You know that only kind words would come from this soft furred, gentle dog with very kind eyes. His past is a bit of a mystery because his owners said they didn't want a dog any more but gave no other details.
Bobby is about 1½-years old and has been getting the usual preventive inoculations provided to all Animal Shelter adoptees. So when you pay the NAƒ105 adoption fee it even includes the shots, worming and sterilization.
And we are happy to report that brother and sister kittens "Wilfred" and "Stella," featured as Pets of the Week in the October 17th edition, were adopted last week partially because they were spotted in
The Reporter.
Check out for yourself the hand-picked cats and dogs awaiting adoption at the Bonaire Animal Shelter, located on the Lagoen Road. It's open Monday through Friday, 10 am to 2 pm, Saturdays until 1 pm. Phone 717-4989 for information or to reserve this week's Pet of the Week for yourself.
G.D.

They "Dare to Care."  People who want to see things better on Bonaire... better for children, youngsters, elderly and the community as a whole. Led by Founder and President, Davika (Vicky) Bissessar-Shaw, they believe that they can contribute to the island's people by filling in the gaps in present social welfare structure.
These people have established the We Dare to Care Foundation, a non-profit organization.  As a first effort they want to build a children's playground: a well-designed, accessible and centrally located public playground that will not only be only a source of recreation, but would also help children to develop motor and social skills. They believe that such a place will be a very positive tool in the quest to provide our children with a healthy community environment. This fact has been recognized by the government which has awarded the We Dare to Care foundation a one-year option on a centrally situated plot of land (3480 m
2 behind San Francisco Hospital) specifically for this purpose. The Foundation will use the time to prepare the final design documents, specifications and, most importantly, secure the funds to carry out and maintain the project. They have already begun work to meet their goal.
The landscaped park will have a path for jogging, exercising and walking, tri-cycling, roller-blading, and for wheel chair-bound persons. It will host a community center as well.
The group has already received substantial support from our community. To further the cause they will hold an "Oldies 60s-80s Moonlight Party," a fundraising dinner-dance, wine included, on the SABEDECO pier at 7:30 pm on November 15. Tickets, priced at NAƒ125 a person, can be purchased at Lisa Gas and Fit-4-Life, or call 785-6090 or 785-3140.
